A motion of sympathy with Mr E. Buckingham in the death of his mother was passed at the meeting of tho MidCanterbury Executive of the Farmers' Union this afternoon.

Mr Gordon Childs, youngest son ot Mr E. H, Childs, of Ashburton, has been selected as wireless operator in the Tank Brigade at Waiouru. Mr Childs, who is in the Postal Department, was recently transferred from Hinds to Eketalmna.

The following Ashburton candidates were successful in the examination conducted in Christchurch by Miss Kathleen Danetree (London) on behalf of the. Royal Academy of Daricing: Grade 4: Barbara Williams. Elementary: Billie McKie, Esina Ingram, Joyce Welch.

Reference to the good work done in the interests of the farming community over many years by the late Mr David Jones, formerly Minister of Agriculture, M.P. for Mid-Canterbury and chairman of tho Meat Producers Board, was made at the meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union in Ashburton this afternoon.
