TABLE TENNIS.
TWO MATCHES LAST EVENING.
In the competitions of the Ashburton Table Tennis Association St. Andrew’s A and Fire Brigade met at the Brigade rooms last evening. Both teams were previously unbeaten, and some interest was aroused in the result. Although St. Andrew’s won by 2G games to 10 games, the play was much more even than the scores indicate and both sides put on good table tennis, rising to brilliance times. R. Kerr, J. Smith and P. Baker made up a well balanced team for Fire Brigade, with R. Kerr a model of steadiness. j! Smith took one game from each of the three top players of St. Andrew’s. J. Cookson (capt.), won 7 games, I. Lion 6, 11. Willis and Ken Cookson 5 each for St. Andrew’s. The doubles were most interesting and very even, St. Andrew’s winning 3 to 1. Scores were as follow: Kerr and Smith lost to Willis and Lion 18-21, Smith and Kerr beat J. and K. Cookson 23-21, Kenny and Baker lost to J. and K. Cookson 21-23, and lost to Willis and Lion 20-22. The Catholic A team beat. Catholic B by 24 games to 12 last evening. The A team won one doubles and 23
singles and the B team three doubles and nine singles. The A team was K. Reynolds, P. Bradley, N. Fox and G. Bradley, and the B team J. Pooley, C. Davidson, T. Henley and J. Hurley.
