ST. JAMES THEATRE. What is undoubtedly one of the funniest and most original, mystery thrillers the screen has offered “Busman’s Honeymoon” concludes its season to-night. Robert Montgomery is starred, while the excellent, supporting east includes Constance Cummings, Sir Seymour Hicks, and Leslie Banks. Combining a thrilling Cassidy Western and a grand action comedy, the double bill showing on Thursday and Friday and commencing at 7.45 p.m. and again at the matinee at 2 p.m. on Friday will find immediate appeal to audiences. “Santa Fe Marshall,” Clarence E. Mulford’s thrilling tale of the further exploits of Hop-along Cassidy (William Boyd). A strong cast supports the star. “Down Went McGinty” is the hilarious story of a two-fisted Irishman who rises from beggar to politician, with one hand on the public pulse and the other on its purse. McGinty swindles his way to fame and fortune, until romance pricks his conscience. Brian Donlevy, Muriel Angelus and Akim Tamiroff have the top roles.

SAVAGE CLUB BALL. A lavish use of greenery tastefully arrayed and other forms of novel decoration transformed the Radiant Hall for the Ashburton Savage Club’s hall last evening and the function proved to be one of the most successful in the very attractive series of annual balls piomoted by the Club. Included in the scheme was a, Maori whare, realistically set up and surrounded with cabbage trees and other greenery, with a most effective background, while around the walls at intervals were representations of the Club’s emblem, the tuatara. There was an attendance of well over 200 couples and the programme ot dances was a very enjoyable one, the dancing going on till long after the originally scheduled hour of closing. Members of the Council, led by the Tohunga (Mr J. 11. Browne) gave the haka and sang the 'Club ode. Music was supplied by Campbell’s orchestra, from Christchurch. The arrangements for the ball were made by the following committee, on whom fell the bulk of the work of decorating the largo hall:—Messrs A. A. Todd (Great Chief), K. Jeffs (secretary), J. J>. Baxter, 0. O. Vial, R. T. Brennan and, A. C. Wilson.
