Although steady rain set in after the' second race there was a good attendance at the New Brighton Trotting Dlub’s meeting. CANTERBURY PARK MEETING. READING BEATS HIGH CASTE. * \ SYDNEY, September 6. Showing a return to form, Reading won the Canterbury Stakes at the Canterbury Park meeting to-day, defeating High Caste by half a length. EjlgH Caste made a prodigious run from well back in the field, but Reading, hard ridden, just stalled off the challenge. Beau Vito, having his first race of the season, never showed up. The New Zealanders, Serenata and Omapo, were unplaced in the Campsie Handicap. Another New Zealander, Duvach, who was to have his first outing in the Flying Handicap, suffered an injury to his head, en route to the course, and had to be scratched. The principal results were:—

Canterbury Stakes, .of £500; weigh t-for-age; six furlongs—Reading 9.2 (Munro) 1, High Caste 9.2 (Bartle) 2, Amiable 8.11 (ICook) 3. There were six starters. Won by half a length ; a length between second and third. Time, 1.12.
