NEW BRIGHTON TROTTING CLUB. MANKIND WINS MEMORIAL (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 6. Although steady rain set in after the' second race there was a good attendance at the New Brighton Trotting Dlub’s meeting. The totalisator handled £33,037, compared with £31,031 in 1940, an increase of £2006. Results:—

Heavy showers early in the day made the track heavy for the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting to-day, but the weather cleared before the fourth race'. The totalisator handled £46,417 10s, as compared with £49,372 10s last year. OTAGO HUNT CLUB. WIN FOR ISLAY DOWNS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 6. The Otago Hunt Club’s meeting was held to-day in showery weather, and on a heavy track. The totalisator handled £20,951 10s as against £22,144 10s last year.

was soft. The totalisator handled £28,035, against £28,755 last year. For the meeting the investments were £45,948 10s, compared with £4.7,05/ last year. CANTERBURY PARK MEETING. READING BEATS HIGH CASTE. * \ SYDNEY, September 6. Showing a return to form, Reading won the Canterbury Stakes at the Canterbury Park meeting to-day, defeating High Caste by half a length. EjlgH Caste made a prodigious run from well back in the field, but Reading, hard ridden, just stalled off the challenge. Beau Vito, having his first race of the season, never showed up. The New Zealanders, Serenata and Omapo, were unplaced in the Campsie Handicap. Another New Zealander, Duvach, who was to have his first outing in the Flying Handicap, suffered an injury to his head, en route to the course, and had to be scratched. The principal results were:—

Canterbury Stakes, .of £500; weigh t-for-age; six furlongs—Reading 9.2 (Munro) 1, High Caste 9.2 (Bartle) 2, Amiable 8.11 (ICook) 3. There were six starters. Won by half a length ; a length between second and third. Time, 1.12.

Canterbury Guineas, of 750 guineas; nine furlongs—Chatham’s Choice 8.5 (Knox) 1, Yaralla 8.5 (MeCarten) 2, Beau Son 8.5 (Bartle) 3. There were 10 starters. Won by a head. Time,, 1.54.

RACING AT FLEMINGTON. • ALL VEIL’S SUCCESS. MELBOURNE, September 6. The New Zealander Cloudy Bay ran a good race in the Warriston Handicap at Flemington to-day to finish second, only half a head behind Royal Peter. Results:— Whittier Handicap, of £500; six furlongs—■ All Veil (N.Z.) 9.0 (Hartney) 1, Kanuri 7.12 (Ralph) 2, High Title 8.12 (Reed) 3. There were 12 starters. Won by half a length. Time, 1.14. Warriston Handicap, of £300; one mile—Royal Peter 8.2 (Purtell) 1, Cloudy Bay (N.Z.) 8.8 (Reed) 2, Running Sea 7.13 (McDonald) 3. There were 19 starters.
