SILK STOCKINGS.
CAUSE OF THE SHORTAGE. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 6. An explanation thgt the shortage of silk stockings had arisen because of the enlistment of skilled male operators in the armed forces and the sinking by enemy action of additional plant arranged for, was given by the Hon. Wi. Nash, replying to a question in the House by Mr H. Atmore, on behalf of the Hon. W. E. Barnard, who asked whether additional supplies could be obtained from Australia. The Minister said that adequate licences had been issued for both raw material and plant if it could be secured. Supplies of local manufacture would be increased shortly, and the Government was giving attention to a more equitable distribution of supplies.
