PERSONAL.
Regret- at the death of Mrs W- J. Hookings, an honorary member, was expressed in the report presented at the annual meeting of the Allenton Sports Club last evening. The following members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade passed the annual re-examinatjon: H. T. Lane, D. A. Gordon, P. C. Noble, L. T. Greenfield, W. Seal, L. George, J. Waters, It. Brassett, H. L. Wimsett, and H. Hcfford. D.r. N E. H. Fulton was the examiner. Leading Aircraftman 1. C. Gilchrist, iforn/crly on the office staff of the Ashburton Woollen Mills, was presented with a set of military brushes from the mill staff and a-fountain pen and pair of gloves from the office staff yesterday afternoon. Mr D. . Wellman made the presentation for the mill staff and Miss M. Muir for the office. Mr R. Thomas, deputy conductor of the Timaru Municipal Band and soprano cornet champion of New Zealand lias been appointed conductor of the Queen Alexandra’s Own Regimental Band, Wanganui. He has played with the Ashburton Silver Band on several occasions. Mr Thomas'passed through Ashburton this morning on his way back to Timaru from Wanganui.
