ORE AT IMPORTANCE OF WORK. t GO VERXOR-GEXEEAI.’S TRIBUTE. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The annual conference of the New Zealand Red Cross Society was opened by the GovemOr-General to-day. It was preceded by a parade of V.A.D.’s and of the Women’s Red. Cross Transport Service. Sir Heaton Rhodes presided. Sir Cyril Newfill paid a tribute to tho work done by the Red Cross all over the world. This work was doubly important in war time. “We must never forget the possibility of an attack on these islands,” said his Excellency, “and in order to withstand it as many people as possible should have some.' knowledge ol’ the rudiments oi first-aid. The'Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John in the Mother Country had played a large part in producing the magnificent morale oi the people.”
