BOWLING.
THE ASHBURTON CLUB. \ STRONG POSITION SHOWN. t A strong financial position is disclosed in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the -Ashburton Bowling Club to-night. This is attributed to the Domain Board continuing to maintain the greens, and the suggestion is made that it is now timely to consider the provision of better accommodation at the pavilion. Regret is recorded at the death of an old member, Mr Ti Wilson. A past president and former treasurer, Mr h. C. Dunn, has left Ashburton. Mr H. Rands, the oldest member, has been appointed a life member. “A feature of the season was the outstanding success \of W. Finn, who won all except one of the competitions ho entered for.” , Mr G. E. Glen, a former member, presented the Club with a rinks’ board. Thanks were expressed to the Curator of the Domain (Mr D. H. Leigh), the green supervisor (Mr A. Gregory), and Mr H. Milsom for their work in preparation of the greens. The top green had boon closed early and much work had been done by the Domain staff in preparing it for top-dressing and resowing. It was stated that as an outcome of the exchange of visits between the Opawa and Ashburton Clubs, Mr Vogel of the Opawa Club, had donated a cup for annual competition between the two clubs. It was proposed that tnvu games be played annually, one at Opawa and one at Ashburton, and that the aggregate points count for the cup. The report added that the memership was good. Good wishes were extended to C. and H. Gowans and J. Hardie, members who are with the forces overseas.
