ALLEGED BOOING

METHVEN TEAM AND REFEREE. COMPLAINT TO RUGBY UNION. An allegation that he was “booed” by members of the visiting team at tiie conclusion of the third grade match between Methven and Mayfield at Mayfield on Saturday, was made by the referee (Mr A. H. Guiney) in a letter received by the Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union ( at its weekly meeting last evening. When the bus containing the Methven players passed him about half an Imur later he was again booed and an insulting remark was passed. ' It was agreed to ask the Methven Club for an explanation. Mr A. Doig, manager of the representative team that played South Canterbury on Saturday, reported on the match. The president (Mr N. Robilliard) referred to the visit as being a “thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.” He commented favourably on the refereeing and the hospitality extended by South Canterbury. _ ' It was decided to write thankingSouth Canterbury for its hospitality. An invitation to attend a smoko concert on Saturday evening to mark the club’s win in the senior competition was received from the Rakaia Club. It was decided to complete the junior competition on Saturday. Mr K. Lowry was appointed games controller at the Domain next Saturday. Next Saturday was fixed as the closing date of entries for the Union’s seven-a-side tournament to be held on Saturday, August 23. The Draw for Saturday.
