REPORTED CLASH.
RUSSIANS' AND JAPANESE. (Rec. 1.30.) SHANGHAI, Aug. 4. It is persistently reported that Japanese and Russian forces were engaged in large-scale hostilities at the Armur river at the week-end. The Japanese are reported to have suffered 1500 casualties. Part of the Amur river runs along the border between Manchukuo and the Amur province of Russia. JAPANESE SPOKESMAN’S DENIAL. (Roc. 10.0) SHANGHAI, Aug. 4. The Japanese military spokesman (Mr Aki.yamo) said that the reported SovietJapanese clash on the border was impossible under present circumstances, especially in view "of the negotiations for demarcation of the border} which are at present proceeding smoothly.
