PROTEST TO GERMANY.
PRISONERS OF WAR RATIONED.
LONDON, August 2
Information was recently received that rations for British prisoners of war in German hands were reduced on June 3 in conformity with the reduction in the food allowance for the German civilian population. In actual fact, however, these reduced figures are no larger than the diet sheet known to have been in force in several camps for some time. The Geneva Prisonors-of-War Convention provides that the food ration for prisoners of war shall be equivalent in quantity and quality to that of depot troops. No information has been provided on the rations issued to depot troops since June 3. Repeated protests have been made to Germany concerning her failure to observe the terms of the convention dealing with food rations. These representations arc being renewed. The failure of Germany to fulfill her obligations fortunately does not mean .that the health of British prisoners of war is likely to be endangered. Food parcels are being delivered in satisfactory numbers to camps through the International Red Cross Committee, mainly from the supplies sent out bv the British Rod Cross Society.—British Official Wireless.
