ITALIAN LIKELY SUNK
SUBMARINES ATTACK TWO SUPPLY SHIPS GO DOWN 'United Press Association—Copyright A (Rec. 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, August 3. An Italian cruiser has been and possibly sunk, and supply vessels totalling 7000 tons have been torpedoed and sunk by British submarines in the Mediterranean. This news is contained in two Admiralty communiques. The first communique says: “An Italian cruiser, either the Eugenio Di Savbia, or the Emanuel Filiberato Duca Daosta, has been attacked in the Mediterranean. This enemy cruiser was in company with the six-inch-gun cruiser of the Garibaldi class, and they were screened by destroyers. Two hits were obtained and the destroyers were observed later to be circling the position in which the cruiser had been hit and to be laying a protective smoke screen. It is not known whether the enemy cruiser sank. The second communique says : “ Submarines operating in the Mediterranean reported further successful action against enemy supply ships, vessels of 1600 and 6000 tons having been torpedoed and sunk. A floating dock towed by two tugs and escorted by a destroyer and two torpedo-boats was attacked within within less than a mile of the Italian cQast. The floating dock was hit by at least one torpedo.”—British Official Wireless.
