PETROL IN AUSTRALIA. COMES UNDER GOVERNMENT CONTROL. (Rec. 12.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Power has been taken by the Federal Government to control all petrol store by private motorists out of their ration allowances. The Commomveath Liquid Fuel Control Board can direct owners to use these stocks in lieu of new stocks obtained on ration tickets. Ofiicial estimates say that about 10,000,000 gallons of petrol have been stored by private motorists throughout Australia. Because of recent drastic cuts in the allowances for commercial vehicles, firms have turned their attention to shale petrol, and sonm have already started erecting plants* More than 1000 taxis were withdrawn from service in Melbourne yesterday as a protest against petrol rationing.
