ROOSEVELT’S POLICY FAVOURED SEQUEL TO JAPANESE BOMBING. LONDON, July 31. Congressional and popular support for President Roosevelt’s foreign policy has unquestionably been strengthened by the bombing of the United States warship Tutuila, by the Japanese, states a Washington report. The House Military Affairs Committee approved a resolution similar to that of the Senate, favouring extension of military service. Last week the 'situation over the measure was causing political leaders considerable concern. To-day its passage seems assured. UNITED STATES NOT SATISFIED. MORE COMPLETE REPLY , AWAITED. WASHINGTON, July 31. The Assistant-Secretary of State (Mr Sumner Welles) told the press that the United States was not satisfied with the Japanese apologies regarding the bombing of the Tutuila at Chungking, and will await a more complete reply.
