BOXING.

PROFESSIONAL CONTESTS. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 31. Wellington began the 1941 boxing season before a large house in the Town Hall to-night with two 10-round professional bouts. In the principal contest Jackie Davis (Hastings) beat Mayne Morton (Wellington) by a technical knock-out in the tenth round. Though Morton had a big advantage in height and reach Davis was too clever and bored in to score with heavy rights to the head. When Davis dropped Morton with a right to the solar plexus early in the last round the referee stopped the bout. *

In’ the other professional bout Billy Brown (Wellington)* 8.12, outpointed Tot Hoggartli (Greymouth) 8.5. It was a clever display with little between the pair.
