According to the latest Gazette Lieutenant I. L. Bonifant, late of Ashburton, is promoted to the rank of captain in the 2nd Divisional Cavalry. Lieutenant J. P. Gresson, of Ashburton, is posted to the Hecond Battalion of the Canterbury Regiment and is granted the temporary rank of captain, states the latest issue ot the Gazette. The Rev. El. A. Osmers, chaplain, fourth class (Church of England) relinquishes his commission on appointment to a Chaplaincy in the Koval New Zealand Air Force, according to the Gazette. Mr Osmers is a former resident of the Ashburton County. The Superintendent of Police in Christchurch, Mr SL Rawle, will retiro on October 10. His successor has not yet been appointed. Mr Rawle has been 42 years in the Police Force. He has served in many parts of New Zealand. Two and a half years ago he took over the office of Superintendent A.
