ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S DAUGHTER-IN-LAW. AUCKLAND, August 1. A daughter-in-lav; of Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, Mrs C E. Batterbee, has arrived in Auckland from England. Mrs Batterbee, whose husband is a lieutenant in the Royal Marines, intends to stay in New Zealand for the duration of Sir Harry Batterbee’s term here, and will live at his home in Wellington. “I hacl heard so much from Sir Harry about the beauty of New Zealand and the kindness of its people that I was greatly looking forward to coming here,” said Mrs Batterbee, who was met on her arrival by Sir Harry. While she was living near Portsmouth an aerodrome next to her home was heavily bombed, said Mrs Batterbee. She later lived in Harpcndcn, in the north of London. Mrs Batterbee, who will assist Lady Batterbee ih her social duties in New Zealand, will leave tomorrow afternoon wjfll Sir Harry for Wellington. She intends travelling over as much of New Zealand is possible during her stay.
