Put Conrad Veidt down as one actor .who never dreamed of a theatrical career until he was applying greasepaint. Veidt, who is co-starred with - Valerie Hobson in the new Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer release, “Contraband,” the exciting spy thriller, studied medicine and expected to specialise in surgery when he met Max Rheinhardt. The great impressario persuaded him to forget the bedside manner arid develop stage presence. Veidt became a popular matinee idol, and added further to his popularity by wearing a thonocle.
