NOVEL METHOD OF TEACHING ACCENT.
11l teaching English accents to Ann Rutherford and Marsha Hunt for their roles in “Pride and Prejudice,” starring Greer Carson and Laurence Olivier, Douglas Field, dialogue director, used the same method as was utilised by the hero of “Pygmalion,” a phonograph. The players first recorded the scenes in their normal voices. Field then recorded the same scenes with an accent. By comparing the two, the young stars mastered the dialogue of Jane Austen’s romantic comedy in a few days.
