DESTRUCTION UNDER WAY. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 30. Reviewing the deer, thar, goat and chamois destruction operations for the year ended March 31 last, the annual report of the Department of Internal Affairs states that, a total of 48,836 animals were destroyed compared with 47,187 in the previous year. In addition, last year 173 wild sheep were destroyed in Marlborough, and 48 cats and 3444 rats on Stewart Island. Deer skins totalling 12,160, and goat skins numbering 2725 were saved last year. The bulk of the destruction work was carried out in Marlborough and Canterbury. In, this area, 5455 deer, 41 chamois, 15,034 goats, and 763 pigs, making a total of 21,323, were destroy ed. Another big tally was the destruction of 11,825 deer in South Westland, Otago and South Canterbury.
