YEAR’S PROFIT.OF £67,882. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 30. Particulars of raffles and art unions authorised under the Gaming Act in the year ended March 31. last are given in the annual report of the Department of Internal Affairs, which was presented to the House of Representatives to-day. Altogether 2/35 licences were issued. Of these, 1(31 wore for works of art, 61 for small amounts of alluvial gold, and 13 for alluvial gold to the value of £SOOO each. Gross sales from the £SOOO art unions amounted to £220,960, commission on sales £33,144, expenses £32,838, and prizes £65,000. The net proceeds totalled £89,978, and lottery duty £22,096,. leaving a net profit of £67,882. Of the net profit, £42,000 was distributed to the various mayoral or other recognised central relief funds established for the relief of distress ? making a total of £418,000 made available for this purpose during recent years. An allocation of £25,300 was made to charitable and philanthropic organisations, including children’s health camps.
