The Moscow radio sayp that a political refugee from Rumania confirmed the reports of terrific damage au Ploesti. Over 1,000,000 tons of oil in the storage tanks have been destroyed by fire as the result of the Red Air Force’s raids. Many refineries have been .completely destroyed and demqks damaged. The oilfields burned for four weeks, the glow of the fires and the pall of smoke providing an easy tai’get for bombers. The oil fields will he unable to provide nxore than half their usual output for at least six months, even if there nre no more raids. Large .oil depots have beeii destroyed at Constanta, saboteurs adding to the damage. The German High Command, forced to rely on old stocks of synthetic oil, have stopped the export of oil to> Turkey, forcing repudiation of the Turkish-Rumanian agreement.
