WOMEN’S HOCKEY.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES The executive of the Ashbui’ton Women’s Hockey Association met last evening when Mr W. T. Corbett (vicepresident) presided in tlie absence of Mrs Johns (president), who was indisposed. The New Zealand Association advised that Marlborough’s application for the Dominion tournament at Blen heim had been granted, provided sufficient support was forthcoming. Em tries close to-morrow. It was stated that the teams of nine associations had already decided to support the tournament, Ashburton being one. The match previously arranged with Wellington was held over pending arrangements for the tournament. Matches were arranged with South Canterbury Association at Timaru on Saturday, August 23, and with Malvern at Ashburton (two teams) on Saturday, August 30. An attempt is to be made to arrange a match with Ellesmere on Saturday, September G. Mrs A. Loach was appointed chaperone and Mr C. Bishop, manager, of the team for the Dominion tournament. It was left with the selector to arrange trial matches for Saturday, Aug ust 9.

Tile new system used at the County tournament was commented on and it was decided to recommend it for use at future tournaments. It was decided letters of thanks be sent to Mr D. Armstrong for help in the tournament and to Misses K. Oram and L. Honeyman for their interest as umpires this season. A motion of sympathy with the president in her indisposition was carried.

The Methven Club was granted permission to hold an annual six-a-side tourpament on Saturday, September 20.
