FERTILISER SUPPLIES.

APPEALS AGAINST ALLOCATION MUST BE MADE BY AUGUST 15. Messrs G. K. McPherson (representing the Department of Agriculture), A. C. Vincent (grain, seed and produce merchants), and H. C. B. Withell (Mid-Canterbury Primary Production Council) will form the fertiliser committee to deal with appeals against allocations of phosphate fertilisers to farmers under the Government’s rationing scheme. Consumers who consider they are unable to obtain adequate supplies -must make application for relief to the chairman of the committee, which in Mid-Canterbury is the Departmental Officer, before August 15, according to a statement made by Mr R. P. Connell (Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agricultural) in Christchurch. Various reasons may contribute to the lodging of appeals. Users may have taken over a new propei’ty for which no application has been made or concerning which there is insufficient information about previous fertiliser usage. Inability to obtain reasonable requirements under the rationing scheme may also be a reason for appeal. Fertiliser for top-dressing purposes has been rationed on a basis of 40 per cent of a user’s average requirement during the last two years, and it was stated in Ashburton this morning that in a number of cases the allocation w'as being found inadequate. While there is no actual rationing of supplies for cropping purposes the amount that can be used per acre for various crops is limited.
