IRISH NIGHT.
SAVAGE CLUB PROGRAMME. “Irish Night” was fittingly celebrated at the fourth korero of the Ashburton Savage Chib, held at the Catholic Club rooms last evening. Brave M. D. Cuneen acted as Chief, and there wore a number of visitors from other centres. The programme was composed almost entirely of Irish songs, solos, and stories. An excellent item was Savage Cecil Drury's pianoforte solo of an arrangement of Irish melodies. The Rev. Father Daly gave a most interesting address on the life and work of Father John Murphy, sailor. Red Indian Chief and priest. Mr Alan Shrimpton was heard in several Irish songs, while the items given by Savage A. T. Zeigler wore very much appreciated. The fact that it was “Irish Night” was not overlooked in the supper room, saveloys and potatoes cooked: in their skins forming the “piece do resistance.” The orchestra under the batofi of Savage E Hopwood entributed greatly to the success of the evening.
