INCREASED OUTPUT OF CHEESE. MINISTER EXPLAINS PLANS. ft (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 1. On his return to Wellington from the South Island, the Minister for Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) was asked for further comment on the restriction of ■■butter exports to Great Britain. ( “In amplification of mv remarks in Christchurch regarding restricted butter shipments, the Prime Minister has indicated that a considerable changeover . from butter-making to cheesemaking is necessary,” said Mr Barclay. “Investigations are already being made by the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture to determine, the extent of the change from butter to cheese which can be made by extended use of existing factories and plant, and by the provision of additional manufacturing facilities. “In this endeavour to meet the wishes of the United Kingdom Ministry of Food, the full co-operation of dairy farmers, dairy companies, and the Dairy Board will be sought. I am confident that there will he a ready and satisfactory response. There is an urgent necessity for an increasing supi ply of milk going to our cheese factories at present. Every additional gallon of milk which can he diverted to cheese-making. now will he assisting the common war effort,”
