FEWER MEN THAN EVER. (P,A.) AUCKLAND, April 1. “There are fewer men engaged uifder the various Government employment schemes to-day than ever before,” said the Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb), when interviewed to-day. “The numbers of men on schemes apart from public works total 8791. Thesfe figures arc 5700 fewer than those of six months ago. The men are not unemployed, but their wages are subsidised from the Employment Promotion Fund.”

The Minister added that Scheme 13 figures wore the lowest on record, the number of men employed being 6393. Included in this total wore some hundreds of men employed by State departments, and 600 men employed on rabbit schemes, mostly in Otago and Southland.
