AN INCREASE IN ASHBURTON.

MORE HOURS OF SUNSHINE. There was a higher rainfall in Ashburton during 1940 than in 1939, the total being 28.56 inches, compared with 22.43 in the previous period. The heaviest fall was in May, when 5.97 inches were recorded at the Domain weather station. The figures for the year, with those of the last two years, are:—

The weather in December was on the whole fairly warm and dry. The high temperature of 88 degrees was recorded on December 8 and on five occasions altogether the temperature was above 80. The rainfall was low', only 76 points falling, while 3.39 inches were experienced in the corresponding month of 1939.
