AUSTRALIAN CABINET.
IN THE EVENT OF DEFEAT.
NATIONAL GOVERNMENT
POSSIBLE.
(Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The Canberra correspondent of the “Sydney Morning Herald” says that if the Federal'Ministry is defeated on Labour’s amendment- to the Budget, fresh moves Avill probably be made to form a National Government.
Several members of the. United Australia Party made it clear that they would support any leader Avho made a. genuine attempt to l form the strongest possible all-party Cabinet. A last-minute concession by one side or the other, hoAvever, may still save the Menzies’ Ministry. Labour members are confident that tine Government will reach a compromise!. Another possibility of the Government being defeated is a sudden general election, and th officers of the official Labour Party have been instructed to prepare for it Avithout delay.
