A DULL, COOII DAY. After being dull hut- mild during the parly part of this . morning very light rain came on about 11 o’clock, blit ceased before 1 o’clock, the sky remaining ovejrcast. i The highest maximum temperature of the present season, 81.5 degrees, was registered yesterday. The minimum was 53.6 degrees. At 9 o’clock this morning the barometer read 29.96 inches, haying risen slightly since yesterday.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— Pressure is high to the north and over the south Tasman, whilq a weak depression is centred south-west of the Chatham Islands.

The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:

Moderate southerly to southeasterly winds, becoming variable to-morrow. Scattered showers to-day, mainly in the high country. Weather fair to fine to-morrow. Moderate temperatures. Seas slight to moderate.
