DENTAL SURGEON FROM GERMANY. PISTOL AM) CAMERAS HELD (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Possession of an automatic pistol was responsible for the appearance of Philip. Edmund Kuna, dental surgeon, a refugee- from, Germany, before Mr J. L. SStout, • S.M. Defendant was fined £lO and ,a further £lO for possessing, as an enemy alien, two cameras. The pistol and the, cameras, said to be worth. £IOO, were confiscated. Kuhz in evidence said he left Germany as a result of Nazi repression and lived in Switzerland fof a while near the German border. He said he kept the pistol because if the Nazis caught him they would shoot him, and he intended to anticipate them by shooting himself 'if necessary. Nobody told him he had to declare the firearm when entering New Zealand. The pistol was in parts and the cameras were riot. used. All refugees had cameras as that was the means of getting valuables out of Germany. It was pointed out for Kunz that the regulation forbidding aliens the possession of cameras was brought in after Kunz’s arrival.
