Inquiries reveal that the situation complained of in Christchurch of girls absenting themselves from work in factories applies in some cases locally. This being noted generally after dances or late nights when some don’t turn up till the following afternoon. They are willing to work overtime to make up lost hours, but this is costly to employers. Olio firm has taken steps to remedy the situation. No girls is allowed to work overtime in the following week if she lias not put in a full 40 hours in the proceeding week, this proviso not applying, of course, in cases of sickness.
