COMMUNITY SING.
ENTHUSIASM GROWING.
OVER, £56 TAKEN LAST NIGHT. The idea of the community sings for patriotic purposes is taking on very well in Ashburton, thanks to the excellent organisation of the leader (Mr A. C. Wilson) and the Ashburton Savage Club, and the Radiant Hall last evening was filled for the third of the series. More than £56 was taken as a result of the evening. A final sing is being arranged for next Wednesday evening and it is believed that an ev|?n greater sum will be taken that night. An appeal is being made for cakes and goods for'sale by auction next week.
The singing of patriotic and popular songs last evening Was most enthusiastic and tills organisers were kept busy with the several sections of the programme, all designed to bring in funds for the appeal, and their efforts were crowned with success.
Among tine takings were door collection £l6 2s lid, competitions £l2 9s 6d, sweets £2 6s 3d, auction of cakes, vegetables and other items £9 6s 9d, flag collection £4 18s Id, Ashburton Scottish Society donation) £5 ss, donation from Mrs A. N. Grigg £5.
