TWO MINES IDLE.
DAY’S STOPPAGE IN WAIKATO. ,I (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, November 25. Although arrangements had been made With the management of the various mines in the district to .work to-day, and to . observe December 23 as the King’s Birthday, there was no work done at the Rotowaro and Macdonald mines. The two mines were idle for separate and different reasons. .At the Rotowaro mine the miners assembled before work was due to commence, and discussions took place regarding statements made by the management at the hearing of appeals before the Hamilton Man-power Committee on Friday last. It is understood that, the men protested against th§ "statementsf and decided to abstain from working for the day. At the Macdonald mine the stoppage of work was due to a local dispute concerning the payment' of truckers. At the Pukemiro, Glen Afton and Renown mines work was carried out as arranged., V., The rearrangement to work to-day, apd fo.;observe December 23 as a holiday,, was mutpaHy to on account of Christmas Day being a Wednesday. The, alteration will permit the mines hqing. closed, .down on December 21, apd the. miners will thus enjoy an additional week-end in the holiday period.
