SOLDIERS HONOURED.
METHVEN GUN CLUB PRESIDENT PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS. A presentation was made at the Methven Gun Club’s shoot on Saturday to Private W. M. Holland (president of the Club) who is on leave from camp. Mr A. McLeod (past president) expressed members’ regret at losing his services but he was performing a more important duty in enlisting and for this members were all proud. As a token of their lesteem Mr McLeod handed Private Holland a handsome wristlet watch and wished; him a safe return. , Others present also voiced similar sentiment.
PRESENTATIONS AT MAYFIELD. The Mayfield Band Hall was filled to capacity on Friday evening, when the Soldiers’ Entertainment Committee held a dance in honour of local soldiers. JVli’ J. Blair, who presided, presented a wallet each to Corporals C. Matthews and T. Burgess and Privates E. A. Watson and D. Yaxley. Airs W. K. Dellow, on hfshalf of the Afayfield Sub-centre of tile Red Cross Society, presented each, soldier with a knitted article.
The RDv. J. S. Freeman wished the guests of honour God’s speed and a safe return.
Mr L. King, oh behalf of the Mount Somers Patriotic Committee, made a presentation to Corpora] O. Matthews in appreciation of services he has rendered to it. . All* I. Nicholson, on behalr of the Afayfield Football Club, made a small presentation to Corporal T. Burgess. •Songs were sung bv Airs ID. O. Sowell.
Music for the dancing was supplied by Airs S. Shimmin and Mr R,. Aschjen and by the Afayfield Harmonica Band. Mr L. Lilley was Master of Ceremonies.
