v. " '' .•*, , , . ■- ’• \ PROCLAMATION IN TURKEY. EFFECT OF RECENT EVENTS. LONDON, November 23. Agency reports from Istanbul state that the Turkish /Governmefit has declared martial law in virtually all parts of European Tui-bey.
This announcement was made after a three-hour meeting of -Cabinet. It was deemed necessary to proclaim martial law for one month in the districts of Istanbul, Kirldareli, Edirne, Tekirdag, C'anakkale and Korcaeli. The Government foresees possible complications arising from the Italian-Greek war which might affect Turkey, and Turkey has consistently acted on the principle’that it is keep defence preparations one step ahead of international developments. that the Turkish Government has. applied. martial law' in Thrace and the district- of Istanbul as far as Izmit are without confirmation, in official quarters in London, but there is no inclination, to doubt the accuracy of the reports. 'Such a measure, if it has bscn taken, is regarded as marking the concern felt by Turkey at- recent developments in the Balkans and; the possibility of further moves by Germany in efforts to impose her new order on. Europe, which might well threaten Turkey’s integrity.
