THE WEATHER.

A VERY SHARP FROST. Potatoes and othqr plants susceptible to frost suffered fairly severely on Wednesday night particularly in country districts. A frost of 7.5 degrees was registered .at the Domain weather station yesterday morning. The weather this morning was fairly dull at first, there being yam .and hail in some parts of the town before eight o’clock. A short sharp shower of hail was experienced at Winchmore about the same time.

Later in the morning conditions cleared in town, the sun coming out. A chilly southerly wind was blowing. The. maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 59.2 and 38.6 degrees compared with 75.8 and 33.5degrees on Wednesday.

The bajrometer read 29.36 inches today and 29.06 inches yesterday.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: A deep cyclonic centre has crossed the North Island and is now located east of Cape Pallisor.

The forecast for the east coast of the South’lsland from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : : —•,

Southerly winds, strong at times on the coast, otherwise moderate. Some scattered passing showers to-day, but weather becoming fair to finp tonight. Seas rough.
