SOCIAL TO SOLDIERS.
FUNCTION AT STAVELEY. A large number of residents assembled at the Staveley Hall ton Wednesday evening at a social for three district soldiers. Privates W. G. A. and R. N. Burgess and Rf W. E. Taylor weir© each presented with a monetary gift by Mr G. L. Button on behalf of the Farewell Committee, and with a parcel by Mrs W. Normal! on behalf- of the Staveley Women’s Institute. Mr-Button stated that the committee had decided to forward a presentation to. Private W. Hooper, who had! lived in the district for a considerable period. He also paid tribute to thevaluable work done during the last war by Private Hooper’s parents. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs L. Goodrich, Messrs A. (Sutherland, L. Bansgrove and G. Nell, with extras by Miss M. Sclater, Mr A. Merrilees and Mr W. Reveley. A song was contributed by Miss Alma Smith.
WATERTON PRESENTATION. There was a. large attendance at the Wateirton Hall on Wednesday evening when the Lomgbeach Soldiers’ Committee entertained Private W. Prendergast, of Eiffelton. Messrs G. Ei. Blee and H. C. Patterson spoke of the high esteem in which the guest of the evening had always been held, congratulated him upon the service he was rendering, and on behalf of those present, wished him a safe and speedy return. Mr Blee presented Private Prendergast with a fountain pen and a. money belt.
For the Eiffelton sub-centre of the Red Cross Society Mrs J. Clocks presented Private Prendorgast with a. parcel of knitwear and. told him that he had been formally adopted by the subcentre which would remember his comfort while overseas.
Items were given by Mrs Ri. Latimer and Messrs H. Hawkins and L. Heyward. Mr D. Ryan was M.O. and music for dancing was provided bv SD'abourn’s Orchestra.
