The strangers quickly retreated when intercepted and 1 have not succeeded in dropping a bomb on land. Strong forces of ’planes attempted to cross the south coast to-day. Royal Air Force fighters closed in and a brief battle followed, after which many ’planes were heaivd returning across the coast. There was only one alarm in London this morning, A bomb directly hit a Catholic church om the outskirts of Loudon last night. Everything, including 'vestments and! the Sacrament, were destroyed. An incendiary penetrated ft cinema roof, falling near the screen while the show was progressing. Thie staff extinguished the bomb while’ the audience remained in their seats. A bomb hit a block of flats. Tifty people sheltering on the ground floor were not hurt, but those on the first floor were buried to the neck in debris. Two people were killed. German guns on the French coast shelled the Dover area to-day.
