GENERAL WAVELL’S TRIBUTE.
SPIRIT NOT SAPPED. (Received This Day, 9,30 a.m.) LONDON, October 30. “Many of us met you on the battlefield and learned to respect and admire your skill and tenacity,” said General Sir Archibald Wavell (commander of the British Forces in the Middle East), in a message to the President.of Turkey. “The world knows that peace has in no wise sapped the Turks military spirit or the hardihood of its gallant people, and any threat to their independence or challenge to freedom of action will be met in the same spirit in which Turkey met those in the past.”
