LOOKING BACK.

FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Oct; 31, 1890). Ashburton Show.—This thirteenth annual show of stock, produce, farm implements, and manufactures, under the auspices of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held on thet show grounds to-day. The nveather on this occasion was not all that could be desired, and was In marked contrast to the- favourable circumstances under which previous, expositions have been held. The light north-west wind which was blowing all day on Thursday, veered round to the south-east during the night, ami brought up with it several light showers of rain in the early hours, of the morning. Toward 8 a.m. it- became apparent, owing to the increased wind that the day would not be fine, and shortly afterwards these fears were confirmed by a steady downpour of fine rain, which, however, must it might disappoint holiday-makers would gladden the hearts of the farmers.
