PAYMENTS ABOUT DUE

In. this issue appears an intimation from the Ctommissionefr. of Taxes that the November instalment of the Social Security Charge .and National Security Tax on income other than salary or wages derived during tlie year ended! March 31, 1940, falls due on November 1, and is subject to a lato payment penalty of 10’ per cent, if not paid within, one month from that date. In the case of taxpayers who. have paid Social Security Charge in lull hut who have not yet made any payment on account of National Security Tax. attention is drawn to. tho liability in respect of the later tax. The total National Security Tax payable is an Amount equal to three-quarters of the Social Security Charge already paid in full. Tho second instalment iof tho National Security Tax is due on November 1, 1940, and the balance on the. Ist February, 1941. Persons who arc in doubt as to their liability are advised to make inquiry at the nearest money-order office as early as possible during the month or November, 1940, in order to avoid penalties on late payment of any amount they may bo liable to 1 pay during that month. A quarterly instalment (ss) of the Social Security Registration Fee payable by male persons 20 years of age c<r over also becomes due on November 1, 1940. Failure to pay any instalment of the fee renders a defaulter liable on summary conviction to a. fine of Jiii addition a penalty of sixicncio per month automatically accrues if payment is not made within one month from the due date. Any employer who employs for more than seven days a person who is more than one month in arroar with an instalment of the Registration Foe, is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of £2O. Employers may deduct the amount- of any overdue registration fee from tin wages payable to employees The Commissioner also draws attention to the fact that any male person, 20 years of age or over who is not in possession of a. Registration Fee coupon book covering tho November, 1940, and subsequent instalments, is required to obtain a new bolt in the manner indicated.
