DEATH OF PATIENT.
NURSE’S ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. LEAP INTO FLOODED POND. (Per Press Association). HOKITIKA, This Day. The inquest opened yiesterd'ay in connection with the drowning; of a mental hospital female patient who broke away from an attendant through a bathroom window. Though she was followed by a nurse who was unable to stop her, thie patient jumped into a flooded waterhole. Nurse Muir, coming to her assistance, jumped, fully-clothed to the rescue but was pushed, under by the patient, who also sank. Nurse Muir camje to the surface and seized the patient and swam to the shore, where artificial respiration' given by nurses and attendants was unavailing. Nurse Muir was unable to, attend the inquest owing tor shock as a result of her immersion.
