PATRIOTIC FUND
OBJECTIVE A MILLION POUNDS. ACTION IN' NEW ZEALAND. PART FOR LONDON RELIEF. if (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The secretary of the National Patriotic Board (Mr G. A, Hayden) explains that a proportion of the £IOO,OOO for the relief of distress in London is to bo found by provincial patriotic councils. Concurrently with the intensification of the bombing of London, the. patriotic councils had completed arrangements for launching a Dominion campaign for funds for all patriotic purposes, including the rehabilitation of all branches of the armed forces, provision of relief for them and their dependents, also comforts and other needs. An objective of £1,000,000 had been fixed, and October 14 had been nominated as the starting date of this campaign. In view of the decision to make New Zealand’s gesture to the people of London an immediate one and to allow oi allocations by provincial patriotic councils to the sum being sent to London to bo recouped, tiie provincial campaign has been virtually started today. The public, therefore, in contributing to the provincial funds would he giving to anontstanding objective among many worthy aims, because relief for the people of London, was now automatically one of the responsibilities of the funds.
