MINES IDLE.
SEEKING A SETTLEMENT. CONFERENCE HELD TO-DAY. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, September 13. The intervention at the instance of this Government of Mr C. L. Hunter, Labour Department liaison officer, in the dispute at the Macdonald and Glen Afton collieries, which has resulted in nearly 400 men stopping work, was the only new development to-day. No work was done at either mine.
Soon, after his arrival from AVellington this morning Mr Hunter conferred with Air T. Hall, secretary to the Northern Miners’ Union. He also met the management of the collieries. In the afternoon Air Hunter met the executive of the local union and their deliberations lasted for 3| hours. In a statement to-night, Air Hall said that as a result of the conference a. special injecting of members of the Alncdonald and Glen Afton branches of the union would lie held to-morrow morning, when the. men would be addressed by Air Hunter.
