FUNCTION AT HAMPSTEAD. SUM OF £lO RAISED' LAST NIGHT The funds of the Hampstead subcentre of tbe< Red Cross Society will benefit by more than £lO as a result of a concert and sale: of goods in the Memorial Hall last-evening. There was a good attendance and the sale was carried out briskly. A community sing was led by Mr A. C. Wilson, Mrs J. Green being accompaniste. Items on the programme were: Solos, Miss'N. Healey, Mr L. Stone ; elocution, Miss J. Rattray; sword dance, Miss N. Green; instrumental numbers, Neal Hopkin’s band; sketch, “Home Nursing” (Sister, Mrs K. S. McEachen ; nurse, Miss L. Robinson ; patient, Mrs H. Cooke). An appeal for contributions to the supper for the children’s party on (Saturday was made.

THE METHVEN SUB-CENTRE.

TOTAL OF £395 RAISED'. The committee of the Methven subCentre of the Red Cross Society recently decided to make a gift of £25 to the Ashburton executive of the society. Mrs iS‘. Cf. Holmes presided. • Reports of social afternoons held in the district to benefit the funds of the Voluntary Aid Division and to assist in fuirnishing an emergency hospital in Methven, were received. Miss N. Campbell exhibited the various types of bandages required and appealed for pieces of disused linen or blanket to make others. The sum of £ls from the proceeds of the combined Farmers’ Union. Women’s Division, and Young Farmers’ Clubs’ dance was received by the society.- Arrangements for the formation of women’s transport classes in Methven were made. Members arranged to bold a ball and bridge evening next Wednesday. The president reported that the total funds collected in the district for patriotic purposes amounted to £295. This did not include £IOO raised by a mot-or-car raffle. LOWCLIFFE RAISES OVER £l5O More than £l5O has been raised by the residents of the Lowcliffe district recently for the funds of the Red Cross Society by a series of dances and social evenings. At the last function organised by the Lowcliffe Women’s Institute about £lO was obtained. The winners at cards were Mr J. Harris and Miss F. Tait. Music for dancing was provided by the Lowcliffe harmonica band. Mr W. Gibbs was master of ceremonies.
