The annual fixture of the South Canterbury Hunt'Club, held on the. Washdyke racecourse was successful in every way. The weather was fine and as there had been little or no rain during the week, the track was in remarkably firm order. The attendance was probably the largest for many years, in spite of three unusually small fields the day’s turnover was much larger than anticipated, the sum of £12,720 10s being handled, against £11,712 10s at last year’s meeting, an increase of £IOOB 10s. Concluding results were:— Claremont Handicap, of £l2o] one mile and 35 yards.—B (7) Haughty Winner 9.5 (It. Macltie) 1, 3 (4) -Nigger Boy, 8.1 2, 4 (3) Kilrobe 8.8 3. Won by'a head; half a length between second and third. Time, 1.42. Pareora Hunters’ Plate, of £75; one mile and 35 yards.—l (1) Colonel French, 11.3 (Mr W. Swale) 1,2 (1) Turaki 12.1 2, 4 (4) Arita 10.8 3. Won by half a length; three lengths second and third. Time, 1.49 2-5.

Pentlow Hack Handicap, of £100; one mile and 35 yards.—l (1) Schoolgirl 8.10 (L. J. Ellis) 1, 5 (5) Captain Bruee 8.1 2, 7 (6) Merry Simon 8.9 3. Won by half a head; half a length hetween second and third. Time, 1.41 2-5.

RANGITIKEI HUNT CLUB. HUNTING ROYAL SUCCESSFUL. MAR TON, July 27. The weather was changeable for the Rangitikei Hunt Club’s patriotic Steeplechase meeting to - day. The attedance was good and the track soft. The totalisator handled £17,003 under win and place, against £13,966 10s for the single pool system last year. The annual meeting of the RotoruaBay of Plenty Hunt Club was held at Rotorua to-day in fine weather and the track was in good ordler. The totalisator handled £18,438 10s, against £18,771 10s in 1938, when the meeting was previously held. Results:—< Ladies’ Bracelet, of £SO; gentlemen riders; one mile and 160 yards—s-5 Taunu 10.7 (G. Peake) 1, 1-1 Calshot 11. 2, 3-3 Illimani 10.10 3. Won by a. length; two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.58 2-5. Innovation Stakes, of £6O; five furlongs and a-half—s-4 Joy Vaals 8.10 (Winder) 1, 3-3 Rara Avis 7.10 2, 4-6 Gay Rosette 7.8 3.
