RUIN THROUGH WAR.
SPIRITUAL AND MORAL VALUES. A TERRIFYING SIGN. (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) VATICAN CITY, June 2. The Pope has appealed to the belligerents, to respect the laws of humanity and the international rules of warfare. He referred to the gravity -ot the present hour,, and drew a tragic picture of the horrors and suffering which the war had brought to Europe. The material ruin resulting from the present war was attaining gigantic proportions, but could not be compared to the collapse of the spiritual ■ and moral heritage. *
His Holiness asked, what more terrifying sign of the destruction of spiritual values existed than the increasing disregard of the rights by force which crushes and enchains ethical and judicial impulses?
