When she struck an uncharted rock off the north-western coast of Tasmania., the Union Steam. Ship Company’s vessel, Ivahika, foundered in a few minutes. The crew of 24 launched a lifeboat and landed safely. The overloaded boat could not carr" them all and frequently men had to swim beside it, ■while the men in the boat baijed furiously. ’ _ The impact apparently ripped the ship’s bull from stem to --stern. Tho master, Can,thin Keith, and crew saved /only what they stood m> in. Captain Keith estimated that the vessel is lying in ten fathoms of water. Fortunately the sea was calm. Tlie men landed at daybreak, Local residents gave them food and clothing before they were taken to Humic bv motor-bus.
