ENTERTAINMENTS.
ST. JAMES THEATRE. Deanna Durbin’s sixth picture, “First Love,” now in season at the St. James, is a delightful piece of entertainment. To date in New Zealand it had topped her previous records and from the comments of Saturday’s two capacity audiences it should register similarly here. Music, comedy and romance are deftly intertwined while a strong cast in support of the star raistf “First Love” to thq peak of entertainment.. In addition to “One Fine Day,” from Puccinis' opera “Madame Butterfly,” Deanna sings three numbers of less difficult nature. One is the old favourite, “Home, Sweet Home,” by John Howard Payne. The others are “Amnpola,” by - .1. M. Lncalle, and “Spring in My Heart,” a medley of Straus waltzes. Intending patrons are reminded that sessions are hold night 1 at 8 p.m. A matinee will also be given at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
